Illness Policy
Students are encouraged to remain out of classes and campus activities while acutely ill. Please use the following guidance for reference. The below recommendations are for all upper respiratory illness and gastrointestinal illnesses as earlier this year the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has taken a unified approach to addressing common respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19, flu and RSV.
Please stay home if you feel sick and are experiencing any combination of the following symptoms:
- runny nose
- sore throat
- headache
- fever
- cough
- loss of taste and smell
- body aches
- fatigue
- nausea/vomiting, or diarrhea
If your symptoms are severe or if you are concerned about your symptoms and would like to talk with a health professional about your symptoms, students may contact The Wellness Center at 603-358-2200, Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM.
You should stay home or in your dorm room until you:
-
Have no fever for 24 hours without use of any fever-reducing medications (i.e., Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.), and/or
-
Have no nausea, vomiting, diarrhea for 24 hours, and/or
-
Upper respiratory symptoms have started to improve.
As part of the guidance, CDC provides active recommendations on core prevention steps and strategies: · Staying up to date with vaccination. This includes flu, COVID-19, and RSV if eligible.
-
Practicing good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
-
Taking steps for cleaner air, such as bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors.
Once people resume normal activities, they are encouraged to take additional prevention strategies for the next 5 days to curb disease spread, such as taking more steps for cleaner air, enhancing hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, keeping a distance from others, and/or getting tested for respiratory viruses.
