Dean of Students Office - who we are
Gail M. Zimmerman
Gail M. Zimmerman has served as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Keene State College since 2009. Providing students with a valuable resource from the day they arrive on campus until the day they graduate. Dean Zimmerman oversees the college’s Counseling Center, Center for Health and Wellness, and the Office of Disability Services and serves as the college’s ADA compliance officer.
In her capacity, Dean Zimmerman supervises a staff that advocates for the needs of students, facilitating dialogue between them and the college administration while providing resources that complement their experiences on campus.
Dean Zimmerman has been working in higher education for more than 30 years in a variety of student support roles. She came to Keene State from Dartmouth College where she held several positions including Dean of First-Year Students, Assistant Dean of Freshmen and academic counselor. She also worked as an academic and career counselor at Texas Christian University and University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Gail received her doctorate in education in higher education leadership from the University of Massachusetts Boston; her master’s degree in student personnel administration from SUNY College at Buffalo; and her bachelor’s degree in biology from D’Youville College.
Zimmerman, whose doctoral dissertation focused on supporting students with psychiatric disabilities in higher education, is interested in the historical, legal, and organizational issues in serving students with disabilities.
Melanie J. Lizotte
Melanie joined Keene State College in 2004. She has been supporting the Dean of Students Office since 2014. Previously she worked in the Counseling Center and with Advancement and Alumni offices. She proudly received her BS in Psychology in May 2013 from KSC. She takes great pride in making sure the office operates in an efficient manner, successfully and sensitively helping students access the services they need.
