Keene State’s New Sport and Recreation Management Program Available in Fall 2021
Starting in fall 2021, Keene State students can start earning a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Recreation Management. In response to high student demand, the program will offer students with the opportunity to combine the fields of business management and human performance movement science, to gain knowledge in a number of areas such as marketing, business, economics, sport, recreation, coaching, sport law, diversity, and more.
“Our students have asked for this degree, and we are thrilled to offer this new sport and recreation management major to them. Earning expertise and skills in this new major will lead to exciting employment opportunities in a variety of positions within the sport and recreation industry,” said Dr. Wanda Swiger, Department Chair, Human Performance and Movement Science. “We designed a unique interdisciplinary program using subject matter experts who teach our students, and are also experienced in management, economics, and sport and recreation industries. Our program brings the best of both worlds to our students.”
Career opportunities for graduates with this degree span a range of positions in YMCA/YWCAs, health clubs, interscholastic athletics, colleges and universities, sport media, retail sport businesses, recreation and leisure, and professional sports. The types of positions include program directors, marketing directors, corporate sales and finance, intramural director, recreation director, and facilities coordinator. With the growth of youth sport, professional sport, and recreation and adventure industries, there will continue to be a high demand for qualified sport and recreation management majors.
