Registration Opens for May Courses at Region I OSHA Education Center

KEENE, N.H. 3/24/06 - Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, Manchester, N.H., is accepting registrations for nine May courses. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (500) qualifies students to become authorized OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction outreach trainers. Bidding contractors and construction workers often must possess a minimum of an OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach card. Prerequisites to becoming an Outreach Trainer include having five years’ experience in construction safety, a 30-hour OSHA Construction Outreach card, or equivalent. The course is scheduled for May 8-12 in Manchester, N.H.

Upon completing the Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (501), students may become authorized to conduct OSHA 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach courses. Prerequisites include five years’ general industry safety experience, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach card, or equivalent. This course, in Groton, Conn., runs May 8-12.

Attending an Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (502) is required once every four years in order for OSHA Construction Outreach Trainers to retain outreach trainer status. The dates for this course are May 15-17 in Manchester, N.H. and May 22-24 in West Haven, Conn.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (510) covers OSHA’s construction safety and health standards, focusing on recognizing and addressing hazards. Upon completion, students receive an OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Training card, a prerequisite for OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry. The course runs May 1-5 in Manchester, N.H.

OSHA Guide to Voluntary Compliance in the Industrial Hygiene Area (521) addresses industrial hygiene practices and related OSHA regulations and procedures. Running May 15-19, the course is held in Keene, N.H.

General Industry Outreach Trainers must attend Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (503) once every four years; the course runs May 24-26 in Groton, Conn.

Electrical Standards (3095) surveys OSHA’s electrical standards and hazards associated with electrical installations and equipment. The course runs May 15-19 in Manchester, N.H.

Health Hazard Awareness (7205) introduces common health hazards encountered in the workplace, including exposure to chemicals, asbestos, silica and lead. The May 19 seminar is held in Manchester, N.H.

Trainer Course in Construction Noise (7400), building on OSHA’s efforts to reduce occupational hearing loss in the construction industry, covers topics including properties of sound; noise-induced hearing loss; OSHA’s construction industry noise standards; sound-level meters and noise dosimeters; and construction noise exposure control. The May 18 course runs in Manchester, N.H.

Tuition for OSHA courses 500, 501, 510, 521, and 3095 is $725/person; for OSHA courses 502 and 503, $615/person; and 7205 and 7400, $195/person. Group discounts for five or more students to attend one course are available, as is on-site training for groups of at least 10 or more participants.
