Manchester Safety Center Offers Six OSHA Courses in July

KEENE, N.H. 6/14/02 The OSHA Training Institute Education Center in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled six courses in July. The Region I OSHA Training Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State Colleges Office of Continuing Education.

Two courses are offered partially online with one required classroom meeting.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers is designed for personnel in the private sector who completed the Trainer Course for the Construction Industry. The OSHA 502 course must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization and is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. The partially online course must be completed within seven weeks of the July 8 start date; it includes one classroom meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 21, in Groton, Conn. Tuition is $490.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers is a refresher course for safety trainers on Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations designed for private sector personnel who completed the Trainer Course for General Industry. The OSHA 503 course must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization and is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. The course, offered partially online, must be completed within seven weeks of the July 10 start date; it includes one classroom meeting on Friday, Aug. 23, in Groton, Mass. Tuition is $490.

The following four courses are offered at the Region I OSHA Education Center, located at the Manchester Airport.

Electrical Standards provides a survey of OSHAs electrical standards and the associated hazards inherent in electrical installations and equipment. Emphasis is placed on electrical hazard recognition and OSHA inspection procedures. The OSHA 301A course is scheduled July 15-19. Classes meet 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Tuition is $640.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry, intended for private sector personnel from all types of industries, presents detailed information on how the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act may be implemented in the workplace. This OSHA 501 course is scheduled for July 22-26. Classes meet 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Tuition is $625.

OSHAs Revised Recordkeeping Rule is designed to assist private sector personnel who have responsibilities under OSHAs revised recordkeeping Rule 29 CFR 1904. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to identify the OSHA requirements for recordkeeping, posting, and reporting as well as complete the new OSHA forms 300, 300A, and 301. The OSHA 845 course is scheduled Monday, July 1. The four-hour class will be offered twice during the day, from 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 5 p.m. Tuition is $75.

Emergency Management and Community Defense provides emergency management personnel with up-to-date state and federal guidelines on community defense against weapons of mass destruction and other threats from terrorism. Taught by a New Hampshire fire chief, this course presents guest speakers from the FBI, the U.S. Army Weapons of Mass Destruction Survey Team, public school emergency planning, and the hospital safety community. Course participants should come away with an awareness of opportunities for improved integration and coordination of emergency management within their organizations and within their communities. The five-day course will be offered July 22-26, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday. Tuition is $640.
