Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant Responsibilities

Faculty Sponsor Responsibilities

Faculty Sponsors are advised that there is a per sponsor award cap of $2,000 in Undergraduate Research/Creative Project Grant awards per academic year.

The responsibilities of the Faculty Sponsor begin during the application process and include the following pre-submission actions:

  • Discuss the project with the student while it is still in its formative stages, offering guidance where needed
  • Review and endorsement of the application package
  • Informing the student of the need for IRB or IACUC approval (if necessary)
  • Submitting a formal letter of support, speaking to the nature of the project, the qualifications of the student, and the faculty member’s role in working with the student prior to the proposal deadline. Proposals submitted without a faculty endorsement will not be reviewed.

If the proposal is approved, the faculty sponsor will receive a copy of the award letter and is responsible for:

  • Supervision of the project, including responsible fiscal management
  • Ensuring the student presents their work at the Academic Excellence Conference or other appropriate public forum
  • Encouraging the student to publish or present the project in other forums
  • Acknowledgement of funding from the Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant in any written, graphic, or oral materials presented in public

Student Applicant Responsibilities:

The student applicant is responsible for:

  • Discussing the project with the Faculty Sponsor while it is still in its formative stages, seeking guidance as needed
  • The writing of the application
  • Garnering IRB or IACUC approval (if required)
  • Submission of the application
  • Conducting the project
  • Using the funds appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Presenting at the Academic Excellence Conference or other public forum
  • Acknowledgement of funding from the Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant in any written, graphic, or oral materials presented in public
