IT Tech Tips

From the IT Group: As the spring semester begins, here are a few reminders to help with your technology needs at Keene State:

Personal Network Devices:
Personal network devices on campus include such equipment as wireless access points, routers, hubs, and switches. The Computer Network Use Policy (CNUP) prohibits connecting personal network devices to the KSC network. Personal devices do not meet KSC network security standards and can interfere with both the KSC wired and wireless networks. KSC provides network access to every faculty/staff and student. If you feel you have a legitimate need for additional network access, please talk with your dean or supervisor to discuss the best way to meet your needs.

Media Equipment:
Do you need media equipment? Please check your classroom first as the equipment may already be there. If not, please check the following:
• Is it available in a media closet for you to sign out? Media closets are located across campus. A list of these closets can be located in Outlook Public Folders under “Media Equipment Closets.”
• If you need to request equipment, please submit the Media Equipment Request form 48 hours in advance and be aware that your equipment is not reserved until you receive a confirmation from the HelpDesk.

Media Enhanced Classrooms:
If you are teaching in a Media Enhanced Classroom, please be sure the remotes are secure and the Smart Carts are locked when you leave to ensure the security of the equipment. If you need a key to the Smart Carts or would like to receive training, please stop by the HelpDesk on the second floor of Elliot Hall.

Phishing:
Phishing attempts are always a threat to your email account information and the KSC network. Never divulge password or account information and do not click on email links that look suspicious. The KSC IT Group, legitimate banking institutions, and companies will never contact you through email asking you to confirm account information. There is no exception to this rule. If you are unsure, contact the HelpDesk at 8-2532 before you do anything. We can help you sort it out.

Passwords:
Never share your passwords with anyone! If you feel it is necessary to do this in order to use a specific computer or application, please let us know immediately. There is always a solution that will not undermine the integrity of your password and allow you to remain CNUP compliant. Sharing passwords is not something that should be done under any circumstance. Give the HelpDesk a call and we will work with you to find a solution.

Have a wonderful semester. If you have any questions regarding these reminders or any other technology issue, please feel free to call the HelpDesk at 8-2532, email helpdesk@keene.edu, or stop by our office on the second floor of Elliot Hall.
