World-class saxophonist Scott Mullett and his jazz quartet will perform a special concert with classical jazz singer Rebecca Holtz on Monday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College. For more information about CCX visit, www.ccxnewengland.org.

The concert program, which will be announced from the stage, will include classical jazz and big band favorites. The Scott Mullett Jazz Quartet is a versatile and energetic jazz group based in Keene. The quartet, led by Mullett on tenor saxophone, includes Joe Mazarella, piano, Steve Cady, bass, and Jon Fisher, drums.

Mullett is a local saxophonist and music educator whose resume includes tours and performances with Woody Herman, Artie Shaw, Lionel Hampton, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Stan Getz, Lou Rawls, Ben Vereen, and Cab Calloway, and many others. He is a Keene native who studied at Berklee College of Music and currently teaches jazz studies at Keene State College and the Vermont Jazz Center. Mullett also directs the Keene Jazz Orchestra, an 18-piece jazz ensemble comprised of many of the area’s top musicians and educators.

Rebecca Holtz, who has an electrifying stage presence belting out her own interpretation of big band jazz, has made frequent appearances with the Keene Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Mullett. Vocal studies at the Vermont Jazz Center with the likes of Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, and Peter Eldridge have honed Hotlz’s skills as an artist while stage time with greats like Samirah Evans, Charles Neville, and Houston Person have inspired her. From 2011-14 she was the featured vocalist with the Compaq Big Band swing orchestra, performing in and around the New England area. Matching her in volume and brassiness, the Compaq Big Band provided Holtz with the opportunity to reach a wider audience and try out the swing world. Additionally Holtz crafts original music with her band the Once Hollow with guitarists Jon McAuliffe and Miah Millay. For more information about Rebecca Holtz, visit http://rebeccaholtz.com/.

The performance is sponsored by the Redfern Arts Center.
