New England OSHA Center Offers Safety Courses in September

KEENE, N.H. 8/6/03 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled numerous safety courses in September. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Unless otherwise noted, tuition for each course is $650 and classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute located at Manchester Airport meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Hazardous Materials (OSHA 204A) course covers how to safely use flammable and combustible liquids, compressed gases, LP gases, and cryogenic liquids. The class meets Sept. 8-12.

Principles of Ergonomics Applied to Work-Related Musculoskeletal and Nerve Disorders (OSHA 225) introduces the application of ergonomic principles to prevent musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace. The class meets Sept. 22-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics (OSHA 301) focuses on the safety aspects of excavation and trenching and introduces practical soil mechanics. The course meets Sept. 22-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This class meets Sept. 8-10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Tuition is $500.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This course meets Sept. 10-12 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Tuition is $500.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 510) introduces entry-level personnel to basic construction safety standards and is a prerequisite for attendance in other construction courses. This course meets Sept. 15-19.

A Ten-hour Outreach Course in OSHA’s Construction Safety and Health Standards (NCSH 310) introduces construction managers and employees to construction hazard recognition, control, OSHA policies, procedures, and standards. This course meets Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $320.

Fall Prevention and Protection for Construction Employees (NCSH 424) makes construction workers and supervisors aware of the many potential fall hazards in construction and teaches them ways to eliminate or reduce these hazards. The course is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5, from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $160.

Violence in the Workplace (NCSH 429) addresses one of the fastest growing occupational hazards from both a management and employee perspective. This course meets Sept. 15-19.
