Keene State College Offers Many Courses in July

KEENE, N.H. 6/17/02 Keene State Colleges second six-week summer session starts July 1, but registration remains open for many weekend courses and one-week institutes.

Early registration is encouraged since under-enrolled courses may be cancelled. Heres a sampling of weekend and institute courses that start in July and August. All courses are offered for three credits, unless otherwise noted.

Intensive Spanish Institute, scheduled Monday to Friday, July 8-12, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., introduces basic Spanish, Spanish history, and contemporary culture.

Advanced Industrial Hygiene, offered Monday to Friday, July 8-12, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., explains industrial hygiene investigation approaches, sampling strategy, and analytical laboratory methods.

Permit Required Confined Space is scheduled Monday to Friday, July 15-19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course is designed to provide safety students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to successfully and safely enter permit-required confined spaces in a variety of industrial, commercial, and construction work environments.

Environmental Regulation, offered Monday to Friday, July 22-26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., explores various environmental regulations of importance to the environmental, safety, and health professional.

Transpersonal Psychology is a residential weekend program offered Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Waterville Valley. The course, which studies mind and behavior that transcend personal or individual identity, is part of the Partners in Alternative Topics in Health and Healing program offered cooperatively by Plymouth State College and KSC.

Workplace Violence, offered Monday to Friday, July 29-Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., addresses one of the fastest-growing occupational hazards from both a management and employee perspective. This safety course provides the tools to set up an employee-awareness training program and offers assessment guides for workplace operation.

Humor and Health, scheduled Monday to Friday, July 29-Aug. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., examines humor, joy, and laughter as essential components of maintaining mental agility, emotional resilience, and physical well-being.

Intensive French Institute, offered Monday to Friday, Aug. 5-9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., is designed to challenge beginning and advanced learners of the French language.

Latin American Music is scheduled Monday to Friday, Aug. 5-9, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The course is an historical survey of Latin American folk, traditional, and art music that emphasizes African, European, and Amerindian roots of representative styles.

Aviation Safety, offered Monday to Friday, Aug. 5-9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., discusses the various techniques, programs, elements, and activities involved in the management of comprehensive aviation safety programs.
