Region I OSHA Training Center Offers Safety Courses in June

KEENE, N.H. 5/21/03 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled 14 safety courses in June. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Unless otherwise noted, tuition is for each course is $650 and classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute located at Manchester Airport meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Respiratory Protection (OSHA 222A) covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respirator program. This course is scheduled June 2-5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday at Keene State College.

Electrical Standards (OSHA 309A) surveys OSHA’s electrical standards and the associated hazards inherent in electrical installations and equipment. This course is scheduled June 16-20.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour construction courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course meets June 9-13.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour general industry courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course is scheduled June 23-27.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This class meets June 2-4 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Tuition is $500.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This course meets June 4-6 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Tuition is $500.

OSHA Guide to Voluntary Compliance in Industrial Hygiene (OSHA 521) covers permissible exposure limits, OSHA health standards, respiratory protection, engineering controls, hazard communication, OSHA sampling procedures and strategy, workplace health program elements, and other industrial hygiene issues. The class is scheduled June 23-27 at Keene State College.

Collateral Duty Course for Other Federal Agencies (OSHA 600) covers basic safety and health hazards in the workplaces, safety and health inspections, and abatement efforts. This class meets June 9-12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Steel Erection Subpart R (NCSH 200) covers the OSHA requirements of the new Steel Erection Standard. Students have the unique opportunity of practical experience on a steel training tower located at the New Hampshire Community Technical College in Nashua, where the course takes place June 23-27.

A Ten-hour Outreach Course in OSHA’s Construction Safety and Health Standards (NCSH 310) introduces construction managers and employees to construction hazard recognition, control, OSHA policies, procedures, and standards. This course meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, June 19 and 20. Tuition is $320.

Developing a Safety Program for General Industry (NCSH 430) focuses on management leadership, employee involvement, worksite analysis, hazard prevention, control, and training to develop a workplace safety program. This class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. Tuition is $160.

Successful Safety Presentations (NCSH 431) discusses the importance of creating a safe and fun environment that prepares employees to learn and retain safety information. This class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27. Tuition is $160.

Planning for Workplace Emergencies (NCSH 432) covers vulnerability analysis, identifying internal and external resources, evacuation plans, mail handling, and training to handle workplace emergencies. The class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 16. Tuition is $160.

Creating an Effective Safety Committee (NCSH 433) defines the purpose and goals of a safety committee, its duties and responsibilities, employee involvement, hazard identification, and documentation. The course meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. Tuition is $160.
