New England OSHA Center Offers Safety Courses in October

KEENE, N.H. 9/16/03 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled nine safety courses in October. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Unless otherwise noted, tuition for each course is $680 and classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute located at Manchester Airport meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics (OSHA 3095, formerly course 301) focuses on OSHA standards for excavation and trenching and introduces practical soil mechanics. The course meets Oct. 27-30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour construction courses that earn participants OSHA cards. The course takes place Oct. 6-10.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour general industry courses that earn participants OSHA cards. Two sections are scheduled: Oct. 6-10 and Oct. 27-31.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. Two sections are scheduled: Oct. 13-15 or Oct. 20-22 meeting 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Tuition is $550.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. Two sections are scheduled: Oct. 15-17 and Oct. 22-24. Classes meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Tuition is $550.

Developing a Safety Program for General Industry (NCSH 430) focuses on management leadership, employee involvement, worksite analysis, hazard prevention, control, and training to develop a workplace safety program. This class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16. Tuition is $160.

Successful Safety Presentations (NCSH 431) discusses the importance of creating a safe and fun environment that prepares employees to learn and retain safety information. This class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17. Tuition is $160.

Planning for Workplace Emergencies (NCSH 432) covers vulnerability analysis, identifying internal and external resources, evacuation plans, mail handling, and training to handle workplace emergencies. The class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Tuition is $160.

Creating an Effective Safety Committee (NCSH 433) defines the purpose and goals of a safety committee, its duties and responsibilities, employee involvement, hazard identification, and documentation. The course meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Tuition is $160.
