Paul Available to Press During Town Hall Visit on Monday

Keene, NH, November 17, 2011: Keene State College will host Congressman Ron Paul of Texas, as part of his 2012 presidential campaign bid. Keene State College is a participant in the American Democracy Project for Civic Engagement (ADP), which is a multi-campus initiative that encourages informed engagement with our democratic system. Keene State College’s ADP program and Keene State College Student Republicans are helping to provide students with access to Paul to discuss critical issues impacting our country’s political system today.

Paul will visit Keene State College for a Town Hall Meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the Mabel Brown Room, L.P. Young Student Center, on November 21. Paul is available to press during this time.

“Our community is fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with presidential hopefuls in an intimate setting at Keene State College,” said Keene State College American Democracy Project Program Coordinator, Kim Schmidl-Gagne. “We are pleased to host Congressman Paul on our campus. This Town Hall Meeting provides another opportunity for our students and broader community to engage in meaningful discourse, which in turn helps us to make more informed decisions at the polls - a responsibility we all share.”

About Keene State College American Democracy Project “Participating Candidates” Program

Central to Keene State College’s mission as the public liberal arts school of New Hampshire and our commitment to academic excellence and public service, Keene State College has partnered with the American Democracy Project (ADP), an initiative begun in 2003 by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), to produce graduates who are active, involved citizens in their communities. ADP is a non-partisan, multi-campus initiative focused on higher education’s role in preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens for our democracy (http://www.aascu.org/programs/ADP/).

As one of over 220 participating colleges and universities, Keene State College has developed a variety of faculty, staff and student initiatives aimed at engaging students to become active citizens and fostering a passion for civic engagement beyond their college years.

It is consistent with Keene State’s mission and the college’s work with ADP to open the campus as a space of public dialogue with presidential candidates from across the political spectrum. The Participating Candidates Program invites candidates to come to the Keene State College campus in order to engage our students, faculty, staff and Keene community members in the political process.

Participating candidates are invited to deliver a public address in an open campus forum, the audience for which would include students, faculty, staff and members of the public.

Keene State’s community partner in this endeavor is The Keene Sentinel, a widely respected daily publication that dates back to 1799.
