New Student Mural Unveiled at Redfern

The fourth mural created by non-art majors in Richard Carlson’s Integrative Studies Program course, Color Design in Painting, is now awaiting the rapt attention of appreciative viewers at its location in the west faculty corridor of the Redfern, to the right of the Alumni Recital Hall in the Music Department. The students (Marissa Agostini, Adam Boucher, Caitlin Clark, Leanne Craven, Justin Flessa-LaRoche, Alexander Kundert, Patrick Labbe, Chris Mayer, Joseph Mintel, Kelsey Nadeau, Jason Pagan, Keith Perry, Heather Scanlon, Daniel Scimone, Michael Trask, Aislyn Vaughan, and Kiley White) worked in small groups over a two-week period to create the lively 22-foot decorative painting. According to Prof. Carlson, “Their work followed six in- class assignments and several informal discussions that explored color in theory and practice, and the function of murals as decoration and commemoration.”

The first of the murals in this series is in the classroom area hallway in the basement of Huntress Hall, and the other three grace the hallway that serves the Alumni Recital Hall in the Redfern. “This is a terrific story about students from all areas on campus bringing beauty and art to public spaces on campus,” said Nona Fienberg, Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities.
