Keene State Theatre Presents Student-Written Performance Series

KEENE, N.H., 1/25/2011 - The Keene State College Theatre Department presents The Premiere Series Staged Readings, a series of plays written and performed by KSC students on Friday and Saturday evenings in February and March.

The first show, Memories are What? will be performed on February 11 and 12.; the second, Haze will be performed on February 18 and 19.; the third, Toasting the Tortoise, will be performed on February 25 and 26; and the last, Succession, will be performed on March 3 and 4. Each performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Night Owl Café, located in the KSC Student Center.

Admission is free; donations are encouraged at the door. The Premiere Series plays originated last spring in a playwriting class taught by KSC Theatre Professor Daniel L. Patterson, who also directs the shows. The four student- written works offer an insightful perspective on a variety of themes and settings, from an epic family tragedy to an intimate sexual mystery, from screwball comedy to techno-satire.

The Premiere Performance Series opens with Memories are What? by Jill Strang ‘12, an ensemble comedy that follows a group of high school students struggling to manage their various neuroses in an age where cell phones and the internet have dramatically reshaped traditional methods of human communication. The following weekend is Haze by Katelyn Abato ‘12, a dark journey through one young woman’s traumatic date rape encounter. The third play in the series is Toasting the Tortoise by Taylor Quimby ‘10, a comic send-up of a hapless writer and his incorrigible siblings. Finally, Succession by Greg Parker ‘11, tells the story of a Midwestern farming family in decline during the Dust Bowl era.
