An Evening of Sax and Percussion Music

KEENE, N.H., 3/23/10 - The Keene State College Music Department presents a joint concert of the KSC Saxophone Ensemble, directed by Craig Sylvern, and the KSC Percussion Ensemble, directed by Christopher Swist, on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 7:45 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

The Saxophone Ensemble will feature music from a wide range of styles, periods, and composers, including English Renaissance master Thomas Morley and KSC student composer Brian Campbell. In addition, the Ensemble will be joined by two guest artists - composer-conductor Mark Alan Taggart (professor of composition at East Carolina University) and pianist Krista Wallace-Boaz (assistant professor of music at the University of Louisville) - in a performance of Taggart’s Only Rhythm and Mirth, for saxophone ensemble, piano, and percussion.

The Percussion Ensemble will feature music by KSC faculty member Julian Gerstin, world premieres of works by KSC student composers Mark Perry and Brian Campbell, and innovative percussion standards by David MacBride and Pulitzer Prize recipient Christopher Rouse. Based on Haitian drumming patterns, Rouse’s Ogoun Badagris will be performed as a tribute to the people of Haiti.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under. Tickets will be available at the door, or call the box office at 603-358-2168.

Located off Wyman Way, the Redfern Arts Center is accessible to people with disabilities. To request accommodations for a disability, please call the box office at 603-358-2168 prior to the recital.
