Contemporary Chinese Culture and Improve Home Energy Efficiency Are Among KSC Short Courses in October

KEENE, N.H., 10/08/08 - Continuing Education and Extended Studies at Keene State College offers short courses on various topics.

Whether it’s helping you advance in your career, keeping pace with changes in the workplace, enriching your life, or earning a college degree by taking a course, Keene State’s Continuing Education has something to help you reach your goal. Classes run on campus at night, on weekends, and during the day, ranging in length from a single evening to a semester.

Upcoming short courses in October focus on a wide range of general interest topics.

Tips for Green Building ($35, Thursday, October 16, 6-9 p.m.) and Improve Home Energy Efficiency ($35, Tuesday, October 21, 6-9 p.m.) are among the “green” courses offered.

SHRM: Human Resource Essentials ($400, Wednesdays, October 15-November 12, 6-9 p.m.) and Customer Service 101 ($40, Thursday, October 16, 6:30-9 p.m.) address professional development in the areas of managing employees and honing customer service skills, respectively.

Contemporary Chinese Culture ($150, Wednesday, October 8-December 3, 6-7:20 p.m.) teaches students to communicate in Chinese at a basic level for travel or business purposes.

In Kripalu Yoga ($60, Tuesdays, October 14-November 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m.), learn how to practice yoga or refine your practice. The Personal Essay with Edie Clark ($50, Tuesday, October 14, 6-9 p.m.) focuses on the memoir.

In Painting with Soft Pastels ($200, includes materials, Thursdays, October 16-November 6, 6-9 p.m.) no previous artistic experience is required for this class that teaches techniques for working with pastels.

For distance and virtual learners, KSC offers online courses and certificate programs.

Through ed2Go, Keene State offers noncredit online classes running for six weeks. Starting once a month, each course involves two lessons per week. Most cost $99 each. For more information or to enroll in an ed2Go course, visit www.ed2go.com/keene.

An online certificate program in 47 areas offers you the flexibility of starting and completing a program anytime and anywhere. Programs include subjects from business, construction/automotive technology, and health care to video game design and development (www.keene.edu/conted/gatlin.cfm).

The Continuing Education program also offers a distance-learning program specifically for educators. Fully accredited classes combining CD- and Internet-based learning begin when you want.
