Registration Opens for CALL Program

KEENE, N.H., 08/27/08 - Keene State College’s Cheshire Academy for Lifelong Learning (CALL) announces that registration is open for fall classes. CALL, founded in the mid-1990s, is an educational program for seniors and retired people in the Monadnock region.

Participants choose from 14 different classes, including birding, poetry, fitness, drawing, Shakespeare, Celtic culture, earth science, and the political economy of the 2008 election.

Running on Fridays from September 26 through November 14, 2008, classes are 80 minutes long. Semester registration is $65. A one-time per year $20 membership fee paid at registration permits students to use campus facilities throughout the academic year, September through August.

CALL members receive a picture ID card providing access to the College library, discounts on Arts Center events, discounts on KSC merchandise at the campus bookstore, open swim time in the College pool, ability to purchase aerobics and walking track gym memberships, all you can eat lunch for $5.95 in the Dining Commons on Fridays, early notification of CALL classes and other campus events, and e-mail newsletters.

Students are free to change classes at any time. Registration is open until the first day of class.

CALL is Keene State’s institute for learning in retirement and runs twice a year, in the fall and spring. Taught by CALL members and other local experts, courses are noncredit and nongraded. CALL participants take an active role in planning courses. Participants can take up to four credits each semester. CALL’s highly interactive classes give students opportunities to learn new subjects, develop new interests, and make new friends.

CALL is affiliated with the Elderhostel network. CALL and other Institutes for Learning in Retirement (ILR) differ from Elderhostel in that ILR programs are nonresidential and offer classes on an ongoing weekly basis.

Information and registration material are available at KSC’s Continuing Education Office (358-2290). The office is located in Elliot Center, room 144.
