Public Invited to Five Days of Readings at Keene State College's Writers Conference

KEENE, N.H. 7/27/06 - Keene State College invites the public to five days of readings, July 31-August 4, as part of its 4th annual Writers Conference.

Bringing nine published authors to campus, the week-long conference focuses on helping writers develop their fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry. The public is invited to evening readings.

The faculty includes:

Celia Bland, whose most recent collection of poems, Captions for Cartoons Not Yet Drawn, is among the finalists for the Center for Book Arts chapbook prize. Dean of studies at Bard College, Bland teaches poetry and first-year seminar at Bard.

Chard deNiord, author of three books of poetry, _Asleep in the Fire, Sharp Golden Thorn, and …Night Mowing_. He is an associate professor of English at Providence College and directs the master of fine arts program in poetry at New England College.

William Doreski, author of more than 400 poems and 16 books of poetry, criticism, and memoir. An English professor, he has taught creative writing at Keene State College since 1982.

Jack Driscoll, author of four books of poetry, a collection of short stories, and three novels.

Jeff Friedman, who has written four collections of poetry, with _Black Threads _scheduled for publication this year. He is a faculty member in the master of fine arts program in poetry writing at New England College.

Laurie Alberts, author of three novels, a story collection, and two memoirs. Her most recent book, Between Revolutions: An American Romance with Russia, was published in 2005. Alberts teaches fiction and creative nonfiction in the Vermont College master of fine arts and writing program.

Joseph Monninger, author of two nonfiction books, _A Barn in New England: Making a Home on Three Acres _and Home Waters: Fishing with an Old Friend, and eight novels. He is an associate professor of English at Plymouth State University.

Dzvinia Orlowsky, author of three collections of poetry. Her fourth, Convertible Night, Flurry of Stones, is slated for publication in 2008. Orlowsky is a faculty member in the master of fine arts program at Pine Manor College.

Rebecca Rule, author of two collections of short fiction for adults: Wood Heat and The Best Revenge.

The public events begin July 31, when Driscoll reads from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Orlowsky and Friedman read August 1 from 5-6 p.m. Monninger and Rule read August 2 starting at 5:15 p.m. Alberts reads August 3 beginning at 4:45 p.m. Bland reads August 4, 4:30-5:30 p.m. All events are held in Rhodes 203.
