Butcher Honored at State House

KEENE, N.H. 02/15/06 - Longtime Keene State College men’s soccer coach Dr. Ron Butcher added another honor to his impressive career when he was presented with proclamations from both Governor John H. Lynch and Speaker of the House W. Douglas Scamman Jr. at the State House on Wednesday.

The proclamations commended Butcher for his “commitment to Keene State and to the College men’s soccer team and his impressive record that includes over 500 victories.”

Invited to the State House by Rep. Chuck Weed and the Cheshire County delegation, Butcher said he was touched by the honor. “I had never been to the State House, so to be recognized in the speaker’s chambers was very special,” he said. “It’s a little bit different than being applauded at Owl Athletic Complex.”

The dean of men’s soccer coaches in New England, Butcher became just the sixth men’s collegiate soccer coach in the country to reach the coveted 500-career- win milestone this past fall. He is ranked second among all-time coaches and active Division III coaches in wins (507) and has received numerous Coach of the Year awards.

Butcher, in his 35th season at KSC, has led the Owls to 28 postseason tournament appearances, including NCAA Division III berths seven out of the past nine years.
