Region I OSHA Education Center Offers 13 Courses in March

KEENE, N.H. 1/31/05 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled 13 safety courses in March. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Most classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Unless otherwise noted, tuition for each course is $695 and classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute at the Manchester Airport.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour construction courses that earn participants OSHA cards. The class meets March 7-11.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. The class meets March 28-30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Tuition is $585.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 511) covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles. This course meets March 14-18.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour general industry courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course is scheduled March 21-25.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. The class is scheduled March 30-April 1 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Manchester, N.H. Tuition for each class is $585.

Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics (OSHA 3010) introduces practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. The class meets March 14-17 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.

Fall Arrest Systems (OSHA 3110) covers the principles of fall protection, the components of fall arrest systems, the limitations of fall arrest equipment, and OSHA policies regarding fall protection. The course features a one-day field exercise demonstrating fall protection equipment. The class meets March 28-31 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.

Introduction to Machinery and Machine-Safeguarding (OSHA 7100) explains when and how to safeguard machinery to reduce or eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries. The course meets 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. Tuition is $170.

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control for Healthcare Facilities (OSHA 7200) assists healthcare facilities in their development of a Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan with particular emphasis on the use of safer medical devices to prevent injuries. The course meets 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 7. Tuition is $170.

Trainer Course in Construction Noise (OSHA 7400) is suitable for small employers or their representatives (e.g., line supervisors or managers), who are responsible for developing a construction noise program. The class meets Wednesday, March 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $170.

Introduction to Safety and Health Management (OSHA 7500) explains how a company may effectively implement a safety and health program. The course meets 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3. Tuition is $170.

Ten-Hour Outreach Course in OSHA’s Construction Safety and Health Standards (NCSH 310) introduces construction managers and employees to construction hazard recognition and control and OSHA policies, procedures, and standards. The class, which can be taught in Spanish or English, meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 11. Tuition is $250.

The Ten-Hour Outreach Course in OSHA’s Construction Safety and Health Standards course also is offered online in partnership with ClickSafety.com, Inc. This online course (NCSH 311), which must be completed within six months, is ideal for small employers, as a refresher course on the construction standards, or for individuals who need to promptly obtain their 10-hour construction outreach card for employment purposes.
