OSHA Region I Center Offers Safety Courses

KEENE, N.H. 8/27/02 The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled five safety courses in September. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State Colleges Office of Continuing Education.

The following courses are offered at the Education Center, located at the Manchester Airport. Unless otherwise noted, all classes cost $640 and meet 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Hazardous Materials introduces the Occupational Safety and Health Act general industry standards for the handling of hazardous materials including flammable and combustible liquids, compressed gases, LP gases, and cryogenic liquids. This OSHA 201A course is scheduled Sept. 9-13.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry allows the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour construction courses and to issue OSHA cards to participants. This OSHA 500 courses is scheduled: Sept. 16-20.

OSHAs Revised Recordkeeping Rule is designed to assist private-sector personnel who have responsibilities under OSHAs revised recordkeeping Rule 29 CFR 1904. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to identify the OSHA requirements for recordkeeping, posting, and reporting as well as complete the new OSHA forms 300, 300A, and 301. The OSHA 845 course is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4. The four-hour class will be offered twice during the day, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuition is $75.

Scaffold Users Course is designed to satisfy OSHAs training requirements for employees using scaffolds. This course covers hazards from falls, being struck by falling objects, electrical hazards, the proper use of the scaffold, proper handling of materials on the scaffold, the maximum intended load of the scaffold, and other pertinent requirements. This NCSH 406 course is scheduled Friday, Sept. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuition is $150.

Mobile Crane Hazards Train-the-Trainer is designed for general contractors, sub-contractors, and all those employees who work around cranes. This course explains critical management issues such as selection and sizing of the crane, daily inspections, communication between the site management and the crane operator, and the supervision of the operator. This NCSH 214 course meets on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $160.
