New Library Director Appointed

KEENE, N.H. 2/20/02 Irene Herold has been appointed the new director of Mason Library at Keene State College, taking over from interim director Tom Warger. Herold, who previously served as library director at Daniel Webster College, began her appointment at KSC on January 28.

Herold holds a bachelors degree in English with a concentration in behavioral science from the University of Washington, where she also earned a certification in elementary and secondary school teaching and a masters degree in library science.

Herold says she is excited to be at KSC. I like the student-centeredness of Keene States mission and values, she says. Ive worked in small private colleges for the past 10 years, so Im looking forward to getting to know and working with a larger staff. Herold says shes also excited about being involved with the second phase of Mason Librarys renovation process, which is due for completion in January 2003.

We are delighted to have Irene join us as director of Mason Library, said Robert Golden, vice president for academic affairs. Irene has the knowledge and experience to understand and appreciate the historical mission of libraries in colleges and universities. She also has the vision to see exciting possibilities for the library’s future.

A native of Washington state, Herold has lived in Nashua since 1998. A career educator, Herold was a public services librarian at Monmouth College in Illinois from 1992 to 1998 and taught at secondary schools in Washington for seven years.
