Steel Erection Course New at KSC Safety Center

KEENE, N.H. 1/4/02 - Construction industry personnel can learn OSHA’s new steel erection standard in a course offered for the first time through the Keene State College Safety Center in Manchester in cooperation with New Hampshire Community Technical College.

“NCSH 200 Steel Erection Subpart R” covers the requirements of the new steel erection standard adopted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The course will cover Subpart R, scope and application, steel erection, hoisting and rigging, steel assembly, beams and columns, joists, fall protection, and pre-engineered buildings.

Students will have the unique opportunity of practical experience viewing a full-scale steel building infrastructure that was architecturally designed to teach the new Subpart R standard. The steel erection tower is located at New Hampshire Community Technical College in Nashua, where the five-day course will take place.

The non-credit course will be offered Jan. 28-Feb. 1, Feb. 25-March 1, March 25-29, and May 6-10. The class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday. Tuition is $640. Students are advised to bring personal protective equipment including safety shoes and appropriate clothing for field exercise.
