Keene State Offers Weekend and Weeklong Courses in June

KEENE, N.H. 5/21/03 - Keene State College is offering many weekend and weeklong courses that start in June. A six-week summer session begins June 30 and continues through Aug. 8. The registration deadline is June 25 for Summer Session II. Many weekend courses and one-week institutes are available throughout the summer for which students may register until the day those courses begin. Early registration is encouraged since under-enrolled courses may be cancelled. Here’s a sampling of weekend and institute courses that start in June.

Two weekend computer courses, offered for one credit, meet on Friday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adobe Illustrator Basics, scheduled June 13 and 14, provides participants with a hands-on overview of this graphic illustration program. Microsoft Office for the Personal Computer, offered June 6 and 7, is a hands-on introduction to this popular integrated software package on a PC.

Several weeklong summer institutes begin in June. Respiratory Protection is scheduled Monday to Friday, June 2-6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respirator program.

Advanced Industrial Hygiene is offered Monday to Friday, June 9-13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course explores industrial hygiene investigation approaches, sampling strategies, and analytical laboratory methods.

Three sections of Advanced Nonlinear Editing Techniques are scheduled Monday to Friday, June 9-13 or June 16-20 or June 23-27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course builds on an introductory film-editing course and explains advanced techniques in the post-production process.

Drugs and Human Behavior is offered Monday-Friday, June 23-27, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The health science course examines the psychological and biological impacts of stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, and other drugs.

Adventure Group Counseling is scheduled Monday to Friday, June 23-27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This education course is designed to explore the group process using the Monadnock Family Services ropes course at the YMCA camp in Keene.

Middle School: Transition and Orientation is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, June 23, 25, and 27, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. This education course explores the issues and challenges of adolescents transitioning to middle school and the orientation of new students and families to the middle school and community.

Numerous online courses, ranging from “Introduction to the Internet” to “Start Your Own Consulting Practice,” are available starting June 18. For online course descriptions and costs, visit the online site at www.ed2go.com/keene.
