Region I OSHA Education Center Offers Safety Courses in Spanish

KEENE, N.H. 8/26/04 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center in Manchester, N.H., offers several new courses starting in October including three safety courses that can be taught in Spanish.

The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education. Unless otherwise noted, classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute at the Manchester Airport.

The following courses NCSH 310, 320 and 452 can be taught in Spanish or English:

Ten-Hour Outreach Course in OSHA’s Construction Safety and Health Standards (NCSH 310) introduces construction managers and employees to construction hazard recognition and control and OSHA policies, procedures, and standards. The class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. Tuition is $250.

Ten-Hour Outreach Course in OSHA’s General Industry Safety and Health Standards (NCSH 320) is ideal for supervisors and safety committee members with safety and health responsibility and employees with general safety and health awareness. The class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22. Tuition is $250.

Work Smart - Be Safe: An Orientation to Long-Term Care Safety (NCSH 452) provides a safety overview for personnel responsible for safety in long-term care facilities. The class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. Tuition is $170.

Other new courses starting in October include:

Trainer Course in Construction Noise (OSHA 7400) is suitable for small employers or their representatives (e.g., line supervisors or managers), who are responsible for developing a construction noise program. The class meets Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $170.

Introduction to Safety and Health Management (OSHA 7500) explains how a company may implement a safety and health program. The class meets Monday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $170.

Many other safety courses are offered in October. Most classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Unless otherwise noted, tuition for each course is $695.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour construction courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course is offered Oct. 4-8.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This course is offered Oct. 18-20 in Manchester, N.H. Classes meet 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Tuition is $585.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 511) covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles. This course meets Oct. 25-29.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour general industry courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course is scheduled Oct. 4-8.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This course is offered Oct. 20-22 meeting from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Tuition is $585.

Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics (OSHA 3010) introduces practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. The class meets Oct. 25-28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.
