Jo Beth Mullens

Dr. Jo Beth Mullens joined the Keene State College Geography Department in 1995 after completing a Ph.D. in Geosciences with a specialization in water resources from Oregon State University.

While at Keene State College, she has designed and taught numerous courses including Global Water Resources, Recreation Geography and Environmental Geography. Her research focuses on various physical and political aspects of water, with projects ranging from a water quality perception study of the Connecticut River, to an assessment of policies promoting the removal of dams in New England, to the discipline of geography’s involvement with international programs.

As a professional geographer, Dr. Mullens has traveled to and studied environmental impacts associated with China’s Three Gorges Dam as well as climate change in Australia. She was a Fulbright Scholar to the Czech Republic in 2002 and the recipient of the KSC Distinguished Teacher Award in 2006.

In addition, Dr. Mullens has developed and led several international field courses. These experiences gave rise to the text, Foster Global Citizenship through Faculty-led International Field Programs, which she co-authored in 2012.
