Professional Activities

Patricia Pedroza González, chair of Women’s and Gender Studies and professor in American Studies, conducted the workshop: “Introduction to Chicana Feminism” in Morelia, Michoacán, México, July 21 and 22, 2016. At this workshop, several independent feminists and scholars from the Michoacán Nicolaita University- Campus Morelia had the opportunity to discuss the differences and commonalities of feminist studies in Michoacán and the U.S. at the undergraduate level. Professor Pedroza González presented her current work teaching research to undergraduate students and also offered professional mentorship for faculty and independent activist members of the Feminist Collective Las Desobedientes (women who do not obey). This feminist collective offers diverse educational workshops for undergraduate and graduate students, as well organize lectures and advocacy to end violence against women. This workshop offered the opportunity to share developing theories, current research, and new practices in feminist collectives across the Morelia, Michoacán region. During this workshop, Professor Pedroza González explained her spring 2017 research project and established the links for international collaboration around feminist pedagogies with diverse scholars from the Michoacán Nicolaita University.

Dr. Jim Waller will be providing readings and discussions on his newest book, Confronting Evil: Engaging Our Responsibility to Prevent Genocide (Oxford University Press) at two Toadstool Bookshop locations later this month. Dr. Waller will discuss the root of genocide and how humans can, and must, stop genocide. Join him at the Toadstool in Milford, NH on Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m. or at the Toadstool in Keene, on Saturday, August 27 at 2 p.m. (Remember that the Keene Toadstool is now located at 12 Emerald Street, in the former McCues location behind Athens Pizza.) When Dr. Waller’s book was released in May, an op-ed from him ran in the Philadelphia Inquirer and other papers.
