Professional Activities

Brian Quigley, Counseling Center, gave two presentations at the annual Conference of Northeast College Counseling Center Directors at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. “The Compassionate Campus: Developing a Strategic Plan to Increase Empathy and Compassion on Campus” discussed models for the development of emotional well-being programming focused on compassion, the development of strategic plans for incorporating compassion-building on campus, and resources and areas of collaboration on campus to increase compassion within the campus community. “The Loneliness Epidemic: The Impact of Technology on the Relationships and Emotional Well-Being of Young Adults” examined the increasing use of technology for developing and maintaining relationships, and the consequences for the psychological development of younger generations.

Professor and Chair of Holocaust and Genocide Studies Paul Vincent, who’s spending the middle part of March in Poland, gave a lecture entitled “A Brief History of American Immigration Policy” at Jagiellonian University in Krakow on March 17. Anna Melnyk, communications and promotions coordinator at Jagiellonian’s Centre for European Studies referred to Dr. Vincent as “our very favorite guest speaker all the way from Keene State College,” and moved the lecture to a larger venue, “due to a high level of interest in his lecture.”

Penny Miceli (Director, Office of Sponsored Projects & Research) was appointed as a Reviewer for the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) Peer Review Program. This program provides confidential external review services for grant and sponsored programs operations at institutions of higher education nationally. Its reviewers are recognized as top professionals in the field as exemplified by their expertise, breadth of experience and significant engagement with the profession nationally and regionally.
