Penny Miceli and Janet Albarado of the Office of Sponsored Projects & Research were recently asked by the National Council of University Research Administrators to author an article on the topic of how the presence of research impacts predominantly undergraduate institutions like Keene State College, and how research at those institutions in turn contributes to the strength of the nation’s research enterprise. The article, distributed to over 7,000 professional research administrators nationally, was a great opportunity to highlight some of the great work of our faculty, students, and their collaborators around the state. You can read the article on the OSPR page.

Marie Christine Duggan published in the February 2016 issue of the Pacific Historical Review “With and Without an Empire: Financing for California Misisons Before and After 1810.” The article uses account books for missions from Mexico’s national archive to explore the transition in Indian-imperialist economic relationships. She also presented to the Iberian Society for the History of Economic Thought in Valencia, Spain in November 2015 the economic model Pedro de Campomanes, economic advisor to Carlos III. The logic of the model offers an economic motive for the expulsion of the Jesuits from the Spanish empire in 1767. Finally, she is taking seniors in economics Shane Piesik, Angela Silveri, and Amanda Pires to the Eastern Economic Association in Washington, DC, to present their econometrics projects to the undergraduate sessions in international political economy. Prof. Duggan will be presenting on the relationship between finance and the industrial base in Keene, while Shane will be exploring whether or not baseball players are paid more than they contribute to team success. Angela explores the impact of CEO pay on rising income inequality, and Amanda explains the impact of school quality on housing prices in Connecticut. All three will also be presenting their work at the Academic Excellence Conference at Keene State College in April.
