Robert Kostick, Professor of Graphic Design and Director of the College Honors Program, recently received a scholarship from the Lorenzo de’Medeci Italian International Institute in Florence, Italy, where he spent the summer studying the history of Florence and its vast influence on the birth of the Renaissance movement. This scholarship, established by the KSC Global Education Office in collaboration with LdM, afforded Robert the opportunity to take a hands-on approach to his research of Florentine art, architecture, and design. Lorenzo de’Medici Italian Institute summer scholarships have been awarded to qualifying Keene State College art students in the past.

Beverly J. Ferrucci (Mathematics) gave two presentations regarding the Common Core State Standards to the Mathematics and Science Specialists at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Mathematics and Science Education in Penang, Malaysia. The presentations were titled, “The Development of Common Core State Standards in Mathematics: The US Experience” and “The US Common Core State Standards: Philosophy, Rationale, Processes, and Relations to the Development of the Southeast Asian Basic Education Core Curriculum Standards.” Dr. Ferrucci is serving as the international consultant for eleven Southeast Asian countries who haven commenced the enormous task of developing basic education common standards across their countries. The standards must include quality mathematics, be applicable to all eleven countries, and written in eleven different languages.
