KSC Students Go Forth to Serve, and Serve, and Serve…

From Karen Balnis, CELT:

Here is some nice news in time for Commencement: Keene State’s application for the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll has just been submitted. I am pleased to report that our students performed 104,124 hours of service in 2013-14. This is a big increase from the 75,713 hours of service we recorded for the previous year. This number includes student community service work, service-based trips, service learning courses, and some internships that meet the criteria for community service. In collecting these hours, I have learned a great deal about the work that is being done by academic programs and student groups and am very impressed with the diversity of and dedication to service by our college community.

My thanks goes out to a number of people who contributed to the application. Jessica Gagne Cloutier, Cathy Turrentine, Sue Castriotta, Vicki Warzecha, and Elizabeth Nieckoski were key to collecting information, and advising our process — I could not have assembled the application without them. I also appreciate the faculty and staff who took the time to describe the community service projects integrated into academic programs, and for supervising students in experiential education. Thanks also to community partners who provided the opportunities for our students, and to the students who responded to the needs of the community, shared their time and skills, and gained an appreciation for the value of service.
