Gustavo Lezcano, the older brother of Jose Lezcano (Music), passed away May 28 while directing a school talent contest at Gratigny Elementary School in Miami, Florida, where he served as Music Teacher for 32 years. He had recently celebrated his 59th birthday. Gustavo was also a highly regarded and widely admired virtuoso of the harmonica, and performed as a regular member of the Miami Sound Machine during its early years in the 1980s, on hit records and tours of Latin America, Europe, and the U.S. He also later was invited by the Bee Gees to perform with them on benefit concerts in the Miami area and to record with them on their ballad, “Blue Island,” from their 1993 CD, “Size Isn’t Everything.” Gustavo was also a frequent performer with the Ramblers and other local Miami blues and pop groups. He was a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Education. The Miami Herald has published an extensive obituary online.
