Updates from the IT Group

From the IT Group:

Welcome back to Spring 2014!

As we begin the final semester of this academic year, the IT Group thought it would be a great time to recap 2013 with some of the technology changes that occurred and new faces that have come aboard.

New Faces/New Opportunities

While we were busy with our technology projects and sustaining our day-to-day operations, we were lucky enough to welcome aboard some new staff while others found new opportunities to step into.

We welcomed Brendan Kelley as our new HelpDesk Staff Technician. His first day was January 21, where he jumped in with both feet to welcome students back for the spring. Stop by and say hello! In 2013, we were also happy to welcome aboard Meghan Hutchinson, who joined us as our Colleague Business Analyst, Jin DelPrato as our new Applications Developer/DBA, and John Glezen as our Systems Administrator.

Current staff also found new opportunities to explore. Paul Proulx stepped into the position of Sr. Desktop Support Analyst and will provide leadership for the campus computing labs and computer purchases. Dan Williams moved into our Desktop Support Analyst position in December. Allen Morrison is our new Systems Administrator, while Veronica Gaza stepped nicely into the Network Engineer position as we said goodbye to Ken Whittaker after 30 years.

Early morning printing for students

Students who need to print prior to their 8am class can come to the ITG Learning Center on the 2nd floor of Elliot Hall between 7:30-8 a.m. This will give them time to print their work and make it to class on time. After 8 a.m., the Student Computing Cluster in the Mason Library is available to help them with this need.

KSC Authentication Service

The new KSC Authentication Service is now used to log into Canvas, Blackboard, MyKSC and other tools. This new service eliminated the DOB password or other passwords used previously to access the following tools:

  • BlackBoard
  • Canvas
  • MyKSC
  • Res Life Housing
  • Health Services forms
  • Interlibrary loan requests

So, it is just one password for all of these tools!

NOTE: This does not currently include: WebAdvisor, Colleague or other systems not listed here.

New friendly email address

ITG implemented new “friendly” email address. This address will use their first name/last name convention in the address (john.smith@ksc.keene.edu). The NetID’s currently used by faculty/staff and students remain the same and this new address is now available in KSC directory.

Expanded wireless

KSC went completely wireless! Wireless was expanded to all residence halls and academic buildings last year and then all administrative buildings were included in the Fall.

MyKSC

MyKSC received a new updated look! This new design provides students with a more visual experience and quick access to frequently used applications and tools, reducing clutter and confusion.
