Girl Power Comes to Keene State

The sisters of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, the women’s field hockey team, the Office of Diversity and Multiculturalism, and the Admissions Department all collaborated in an innovative pilot program to bring approximately 50 middle school girls to Keene State College on October 5. The “Girl Power” program included young women from grades six, seven, and eight, representing ten communities in the Monadnock Region for a day of activities led by Keene State women.

“Girl Power” participants attended two workshops and took part in one of KSC’s signature Homecoming events – the Residence Hall Rumble. The highlight of the day-long program was a halftime dance choreographed and performed by the middle school students.

“Our goal with this program is to build leadership skills and provide opportunities for good decision making,” said Dr. Dottie Morris, Chief Officer of Diversity and Multiculturalism. “We want to send a clear message to young women that college is an option for them.”
