Professional Activities

Jose Lezcano (Professor of Music) recently served as month-long Artist in Residence at the Studios of Key West (June 2013) where he completed a commission for the Guitar Duo Amaral of Baldwin-Wallace College. He also performed a concert of Spanish works, and his own solos and songs with Key West singer Melody Cooper and Keys guitarist Martina Krause, and appeared for the third time on the concert series Music in Miami (July 2013), presenting a program of his original works with Florida musicians, including the Florida premiere of his Viola Concerto.

Mark Gempler, Associate Director of the Student Center, William Howell, Events Scheduler, and Brendan Denehy, Academic Scheduler, recently attended the CollegeNet Annual Users Conference in Portland, Oregon. During this conference, held July 20 – 24, they had the opportunity to receive training and information on the 25Live scheduling software which is currently being implemented at Keene State. 25Live will allow all members of the campus community the ability to make event scheduling requests and view event information via a web-based platform. In addition, the software will allow the college to better track space utilization and resources.

Chitra Akkoor, Communication and Philosophy, presented a paper titled “Recreating Community: Afghan Hindu Diaspora in Germany” at the Eight International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences held in Prague, Czech Republic from July 30 to August 1, 2013. The conference provided an exciting opportunity for professional development and networking across disciplines and countries.
