Bryant elected to NCGE Executive Planning Board

Dr. Lara Bryant has been elected by the membership of the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) to serve on the Executive Planning Board as a member of the NCGE External Relations Committee for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2014.

NCGE is the national professional organization dedicated to serving geography educators. She is currently the coordinator for the New Hampshire Geographic Alliance, and is engaged in outreach programs with the public school system throughout New Hampshire. Dr. Bryant’s election reflects the work she has already achieved in the field of geographic education. She received the American Association of Geographers Applied Geography Specialty Group Class Exercise Award Competition for “Geospatial Technology Curriculum Development” in 2011 which connected local schools and public agencies with her students in developing GIS lessons. She has also participated in the national Network of Alliance for Geographic Education task force which created Interconnections, an alignment guide between the second edition of Geography for Life and the Common Core ELA State Standards. Most recently she formed a partnership in her state which made a statewide GIS license available for free to public schools in New Hampshire.

As a member of the External Relations Committee in NCGE, she will be charged tackling issues such as informing officials involved in public policy decision making, developing strategies to advance geographic education, expanding cooperation with other professional organizations and increasing NCGE’s membership. Geography education is a passion that she truly looks forward to promoting.
