Keene State College Secures Commissioner's Cup With Balanced Attack

Keene State captured an unprecedented 13th consecutive Little East Commissioner’s Cup after the conference office released the final standings for the 2012-2013 academic year. The Owls finished in the top third of the Little East regular season standings in 13 of their 17 (.765) conference sponsored sports with an average of 6.294 points to earn the trophy in each of the 13 years it has been presented.
The Commissioner’s Cup measures an institution’s overall performance in the 19 sports sponsored by the Little East Conference.
Under the leadership of John Ratliff, Keene State College captured three conference championships during the 2012-2013 academic year. For the ninth time in program history, the Owls swept the men’s and women’s cross country titles. The Keene State women’s swimming and diving team powered its way to the program’s seventh straight Little East Championship with a meet record 630 points. The Owls also captured the 2013 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships for the fifth time in program history.
Individually, senior Janel Haggerty established a new program record in the pentathlon to win the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship in Naperville, Ill. Classmate Maggie Fitter earned a berth in three national championship fields, capturing All-America honors in the 800-meter run at the indoor meet. Junior Ryan Widzgowski raced to a pair of All-America certificates this past year, standing atop the awards podium in the mile and 1,500-meter run . Freshman Mariah Crisp was named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England first team, in addition to her Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Rookie of the Year Award. The Little East honored 12 Owls during its major awards program, including three men’s lacrosse recipients.
