Who Are You and What Do You Do?

Who are you? Elizabeth (Beth) Hansel, KSC Post-Baccalaureate program ‘92, SPED certification ‘95, and M. Ed. ‘00 (‘01?)

What do you do? Adjunct faculty, EDUC 231

What do you really do? REALLY, I teach high school English. :)

What else do you do? Two BUSY kids, volunteering with kids’ programs, church. Chauffeur (the kids…). I take tap and ballet when possible.

How long have you been here? 22 years (SERIOUSLY? It was supposed to be 5-7…)

What’s your favorite Keene State memory? Methods class on Third floor of Joslin. I went up there again this semester. I see the heating situation hasn’t changed.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? To stop time for everyone else so I can catch up.

If you could trade places with anyone on campus, who would it be and why? Someone in the dance department: I miss it.

What else do you want other faculty and staff to know about you? While I spend most days teaching HS students, it is a worthwhile and energizing break to work with college students who want to teach. The course I teach at KSC helps to ‘re’ teach me about my profession, so each week at KSC I am both teacher and student. It’s humbling and empowering!

Who are you? Brendan Denehy ’84, M87

What do you do? Academic Classroom Scheduler, Registrar’s Office

What do you really do? I schedule most academic classes on campus, coordinate space usage with campus events schedulers, and assist with various space planning projects. I work to resolve scheduling issues, but my goal is to try to keep the issues from happening in the first place. This is a great job for someone who likes to work out puzzles! Prior to this position I worked many years as Events Manager at the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

What else do you do? I love history, especially family history. My husband Brian and I live in my great-grandparents’ house, and keep busy renovating it. My Christmas present to the family each year is a calendar with both old and current family photos – I want everyone to know and be proud of their relatives. Besides that, reading, gardening, cutting firewood, and playing video-games.

How long have you been here? I started as a student in 1979; started working here in 1990.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? Time travel. That way I could go back and witness history instead of just reading about it. Also I tend to procrastinate on things – I could go back and do things right!

What else do you want other faculty and staff to know about you? I am very proud of Keene State, and of being an alumni. There are lots of us who acted on a variation of the College motto, we “Entered to Learn, and Stayed to Serve”… we know first hand that KSC does great things, and that we serve a valuable and important role in the lives of our students, our community and our state.
