Technology Infrastructure Master Plan Update

From the IT Group:

As you have noticed all around campus, the IT Group has significantly expanded wireless technology throughout campus. This expansion was part of the Technology Infrastructure Master Plan that was approved by Cabinet in 2010.

As we continue to expanded wireless technology on campus, we thought it would be helpful to remind campus of the original plan, what’s been accomplished to date, and the timeline moving forward:

  • In 2009, the IT Group conducted a campus wide Technology Infrastructure Master Planning Activity.
  • In the summer of 2010, Cabinet approved the Master Plan. Goal of Infrastructure Master Plan: Build and sustain a reliable, robust, and redundant network that is capable of providing an open, secure and flexible technology environment that meets the needs of the campus for; global collaboration, engagement, transparency, sharing, operating efficiencies and enhanced delivery of student services.
  • One of the high-priority projects identified in the plan was an end-to-end campus wireless implementation. This was a four year (FY11-FY14) phased implementation, and we are on track with delivering wireless access throughout the campus by end of FY14. Year 1 was all the classrooms, Years 2 and 3 are residential halls, and Year 4 is remaining administrative buildings and outdoor space (Quad, etc.). These phases were prioritized and approved by the President’s Cabinet in the summer of 2010.

As this master plan nears completion, this update may be helpful to you in re-designing administrative business processes in your department and how you deliver your services in response to the changing technology environment, both in what KSC provides and students provide.

The IT Group will continue to keep you updated as we progress toward completing our wireless implementation.
