Who Are You and What Do You Do?

Who are you? Amanda Guthorn Warman

What do you do? Director of Campus Safety, adjunct faculty social sciences (hopefully soon to officially be criminal justice )

What do you really do? Officially, oversee the direction of Campus Safety initiatives and projects for the campus, manage staff and budgets, manage emergencies, provide training to the KSC community on various crime and emergency management issues, liaise with police, fire and other agencies. Unofficially, I’m kind of like the Ghostbusters. When you don’t know who else to call, you call us. A lot. Over 10,000 calls for service a year. Critters, bats, bugs, bad boyfriends, girlfriends, best friends, mean postings on Facebook - you name it, someone has called for it. There is never a dull moment which is what makes it such a fun job.

What else do you do? Softball in summer, kayaking, reading, singing (guest vocalist with the mostly KSC band Version 6 - a stellar group of people), theatre, walking, playing with my Miniature Schnauzer Henry, seeing my family when I can (7 brothers and sister, 20 nieces and nephews), and try to keep up with an old house with my husband Don. And I have wonderful friends.

How long have you been here? 11 years, 2 months and 23 days

What’s your favorite Keene State memory? Far too many to mention in writing but I tell a great story at random social occasions. Ask about the jump start.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? To heal emotional pain. I see so many young lives stilted by injuries to their young hearts and souls and too many of us more “experienced” people who allow those scars to keep us from living the best and fullest lives possible. I was also recently bitten by a black widow spider, so would like to be able to throw a web from my arm at some point.

If you could trade places with anyone on campus, who would it be and why? No one. Love my job, even on the crazy days, and I love the people I work with. I have a great staff - they lift me up and challenge me to be better everyday. And moving to Keddy was great for us and the campus. Thank you Andy Robinson, Jay Kahn and especially Kent Drake-Deese for making it possible.

What else do you want other faculty and staff to know about you? If you watch Channel 8, Cheshire TV, you probably know too much already.
