Bright Ideas Lead to Cash and Savings

From Diana Duffy, Physical Plant:

Derek Goodrich, one of KSC’s trained electricians, shed some light on how KSC can save money, simply.

Last fall, Derek took the time to replace high-wattage halogen bulbs that illuminate the Science Building lobby with more efficient LED models. Each halogen bulb not only used loads of electricity, but they burn out frequently. The electricians were replacing bulbs there all too often.

Knowing that LED technology was proven to last longer and use less electricity, Derek installed over nearly 40 new LED bulbs there. Derek then reported his simple change-out to Energy Coordinator Diana Duffy, who reported the lower-wattage to KSC’s utility, PSNH. A few months later, PSNH rewarded KSC with a $300 energy efficiency rebate. The PSNH funds will be used for other energy-saving projects on campus.
