Native-American Filmmaker Heather Rae to Speak Nov. 8

Rae’s film The Dry Land will be shown Friday, November 4 through Thursday, November 10 in the Putnam at 7 p.m. (with the exception of Tuesday, November 8).

Heather Rae has worked as a producer and executive for 20 years. In September of 2009 she was named one of Variety’s “Ten Producers to Watch.” She produced Frozen River, which stars Melissa Leo, Misty Upham and Marc Boone Jr. Frozen River premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, won the Grand Jury Prize and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, won the Gotham Award for Best Picture and Best Actress and was nominated for seven Spirit Awards resulting in a Best Actress win for Melissa Leo and the Producer of the Year for Rae.

Her film First Circle, which follows several foster children in Idaho and Oregon through social services and temporary custody, made its debut on Showtime in August 2011.
