“Ongoing and Emerging Issues in the Hispanic/Latino Community” with Esteban Lopez, Director of Latino Initiative, New Hampshire College and University
Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Noon
Young Student Center - Mountain View Room

Hispanics/Latinos are the fastest growing demographic group in the country, surpassing for the first time the 50 million mark in 2010. Participants will learn about the latest issues confronting this important segment of the nation’s population. The discussion will include a quick review of demographic numbers and trends and what those numbers means in terms of social services, impact on American culture, and the way companies sell their products as the face of their future consumers becomes browner and speak in another language.

Some of the questions Mr. Lopez will address are:

  • What could be the impact of the change of demographics on future elections?
  • What does it mean to be Hispanic/Latino (identity)?
  • What do Hispanics/Latinos think about immigration?
  • What are some of the current and emerging issues in education for Hispanics/Latinos in the United States?
