Ben Maynard Fundraiser October 15

Friends of Ben Maynard will host a fundraiser for the former Owl men’s basketball player on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Keene Elks Lodge on Roxbury Street in Keene. All the proceeds from the event, which begins at 7 p.m., will help defray medical expenses for Maynard, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last June. Guests are asked to bring a potluck dish.

Donations will be accepted at the door. Those who are unable to attend can send their donations in care of Maynard to Owl men’s basketball coach Rob Colbert at Keene State College, 229 Main Street Keene, NH 03435-2301.

Noted for his rebounding and strong defensive play, Maynard, a four-year player (2002-06) for the Owls, played on Keene State’s 2004 Elite-Eight NCAA tournament team. Maynard, who had surgery to remove the tumor on June 20, will begin chemotherapy soon.

Maynard keeps in touch with many of his former teammates and appreciates all the help he’s received from his family and friends. “I couldn’t put into words how much I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” he said.
