Professional Activities

Irene M. H. Herold, dean of the Mason Library, has been elected to the Association of College and Research Libraries Board of Directors as director-at-large.

In April, at the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference, Professor Miguel Rivera-Taupier, from Modern Languages, read a paper on contemporary Mexican-Spanish writer Paco Ignacio Taibo and how detective fiction and magical realism converge at the American-Mexican border. Taibo, one the most prolific and important writers in Mexico, is particularly known for his detective novels and his awarded biography of Ernesto “Che” Guevara.

Rodney Obien (Mason Library) and Ryan LaLiberty (American Studies / Class of 2011) co-presented “(re)Collecting a Film Maverick: The Archives of Louis de Rochemont” at the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference, San Antonio, Texas, April 21-23.
