Professional Activities

Ann J. Atkinson, associate professor of communication, presented “Frances Perkins: Lasting Images of Being First” at the 2011 annual meeting of the Eastern Communication Association in Arlington, Virginia on April 14. Frances Perkins served as Secretary of Labor during the Roosevelt Administrations, 1933-1945, the first woman to hold the post.

Prof. Roland L. Higgins, History, attended the Spring Meeting of the New England History Association April 16 at Worcester State College. He participated in a Teaching Round Table hosted by the New England Regional World History Association with a presentation on the importance of Early Modern Asian Empires.

Jay Kahn, Vice President for Finance and Planning, authored an article appearing in the spring issue, April-June 2011, of Planning for Higher Education, “In Perfect (Imperfect) Harmony: Keene State College and Keene Rebalance Community Relations Through Historic Preservation.” The article describes how Keene State College and the City of Keene accommodated each others’ interests in planning a new Alumni Center. Keene State College’s experience in preserving neighborhood features and historic features in the building fits well into the issue which is specially themed on campus heritage.
