Coming to the Redfern: KSC Concert Band With Guest Gustavo Lovato

The Keene State College Department of Music presents the Keene State College Concert Band on Thursday April 21, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the Redfern Arts Center. The concert will feature an international musical guest from Ecuador, Dr. Gustavo Lovato.

Dr. Lovato is a renowned flautist and conductor. He studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Quito, Ecuador and later at The University of Alabama where he obtained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Since his return to Ecuador, Dr. Lovato has become one of the leading musicians and promoters of classical, traditional and contemporary music. His artistic and educational projects include collaborations with the National Symphony Orchestra, Ecuadorian Chamber Ballet and the National Conservatory of Music. At the moment, Dr. Lovato is Music Director of Casa de la Música, the most important Concert Hall in Ecuador and one the best in South America. Additionally, he is Director of Music Studies at the Universidad de los Hemisferios in Quito. He has performed in Brazil, Portugal, Belgium, Colombia, Ecuador and the United States as a soloist as well as a guest conductor.

Dr. Lovato will perform as flutre soloist on Concertino by Cecile Chaminade and will conduct the Keene State College Band in Mosaico Nacionales by Ecuadorian composer Benites y Valencia. Also featured on the concert will be assistant conductor, Kristen Morace (KSC ’12), who will be conducting Morning in Madrid by Bill Calhoun and Timothy Mahr’s Honoris Causa (For the Sake of Honor). The concert will also include music by Vaughan Williams and Samuel Hazo.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under. Tickets will be available at the door, or call the box office at 603-358-2168.
