More than 1400 entering KSC students (1230 first year, 250 transfer students) were officially welcomed to Keene State on August 27 as the campus community lined Appian Way to clap them along their march to the New Student Convocation ceremony in Spaulding Gym (thanks to Michael Caulfield, you can re-live this enthusiastic welcome on YouTube.)

At the convocation ceremony, pediatrician and New Hampshire First Lady Dr. Susan Lynch was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree for her distinguished career of service to NH children and families and for her national role promoting healthy living for all Americans. KSC English professor Anne-Marie Mallon, 2009 Distinguished Teacher Award Winner, addressed the entering students. Reflecting on a recent summer trip to South Africa with KSC honors program students, she quoted one of those students (“The rest of the world becomes real only when you step into it.”) and urged those gathered to fully engage in campus community life.
