Joseph Darby (Music) presented a paper at Oxford University, New College, in March. The paper, “Subscription Proposals and the Early Marketing of Handel’s Twelve Grand Concertos,” provided a documentary study of the famed composer’s use of newspaper advertisements to market the subscription, performance, and publication of his music, and involved research conducted at numerous libraries in the U.K. and U.S. The paper was given at the invitation of the Oxford University Faculty of Music and the Royal Musical Association, as part of their jointly sponsored conference on the music of Handel, Purcell, Haydn, and Mendelssohn.

On May 4, librarians from across the state attended the NHCUC Libraries Committee meeting, which was hosted by the Mason Library. Patrick O’Brien, head of technical services; Kathy Halverson, assistant dean/head of public services; and library dean Irene Herold presented “Evaluation and Assessment Strategies.” The presentation reviewed Mason Library’s institutional effectiveness four-year assessment plans, work with Project SAILS, citation analysis, and other evaluation and assessment strategies. Peg Barrett, library department chair, also attended and contributed during the question-and-answer period following the formal presentation.
